The Department is organized into six offices, each of which addresses a distinct area of public health. Each office operates and supports numerous ongoing programs and is prepared to respond to extraordinary situations as they arise.

Illinois Healthcare Program
It is an initiative by Illinois Health Department to establish quality, efficient and affordable healthcare. Reforms are intended to make healthcare system more efficient and cost-effective. Department of Healthcare and Family Services
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) provides healthcare coverage for adults and children who qualify for Medicaid and also manages Child Support Services to help children of Illinois getting financial support from both parents. Medicaid is an equally supported state and Federal government program that pays for medically necessary services.

Medicaid pays for medical services for children and their caretakers, pregnant women, and persons who are disabled, blind or 65 years of age or older.
Primary services funded through Medicaid are physician, hospital and long term care. Additional coverage includes drugs, medical equipment and transportation, family planning, laboratory tests, x-rays and other medical services.
General Program RequirementsIn order to get benefit of this program, you need to be a resident of the state of Illinois, a U.S. national, and citizen, permanent resident, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be described as low income or very low income. You must also be either pregnant, a parent or relative caretaker of a dependent children under age 19, blind, have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or be 65 years of age or older.
If you and your family are eligible for Medicaid, you have two basic decisions to make on how your health care will be conveyed.
- Each member of your family can decide his or her own medical choice or medical home.
- Everyone in your family can have a different doctor, clinic or managed care program, or your family can be with one doctor, a clinic or a managed care plan.
- You and your family will receive the same covered medical services under both options. Additional benefits may be available to you and your family under a managed care plan.

Health Statistics and Index of Illinois
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) gathers and estimates millions of health statistics to determine development toward state and national health goals. These numbers also gives the basis for executing public health plans for disease deterrence and health endorsement.
Birth records are not public records and only the following are entitled to receive certified copies:
- Person named on the record of 18 years of age or older
- Parent shown on the record
- Legal guardian or legal representative of the child. Written evidence or guardianship or legal representation is required.
The Illinois Department of Public Health conserves the state's data on births, deaths, marriages etc. Birth and death records unruffled by the Department date back to 1916
[1]. Usually, these records are obtainable only to the person named on the record or to an associate of his or her instant family.

Marriage records are kept by the Division of Vital Records. Certified copies are only accessible at the county clerk in the county where the marriage took place.
The facts of a marriage include: names, dates of birth, date of event and city/county of event.

Death records are not public records and are only obtainable to those who have a personal or property right. If you are not a relative of the deceased person, a communication or certificate from the office or agency that needs the death certificate must come with the request.The Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records offers two types of copies of death certificates. A certified copy is suitable for legal purposes and the uncertified copy is for other purposes.
